Special emphasis will be on effective strategies to deal with ergonomic-related injuries, shift work, post-traumatic stress syndrome and healthy lifestyle balancing. Students will participate in a fitness program that will meet their occupational goals. pOLc 4002 | 42 hrs $666.12 loc date day time JAN. 12 – APR. 17 ONLINE OL Ethics and the Justice System In this course students will identify and critically examine how ethical decisions and dilemmas influence outcomes in the justice system. Students will specifically focus on and examine ethical theories, ethical dilemmas, and why they need to be taken into consideration during the course of any law enforcement investigation. Specific emphasis will be placed on how ethical considerations have influenced the current justice systems in both Canada and the United States. ETHc 1002 | 42 hrs $397.50 date loc JAN. 13 – APR. 21 ONLINE MAY 12 – AUG. 18 ONLINE OL Fitness 2 Building on the concepts introduced in Lifestyle Management 1 or Fitness 1, students will learn appropriate body movement, body balance and fundamentals of adapting the body to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Students will gain an understanding of nutrition and body composition and their relationship to fitness level. This class will also ready any student to meet the standards for constable selection. In law enforcement, fitness is a necessity. Some employers require candidates to pass a fitness or skills abilities test. This course is geared to preparing students to develop the skills necessary for success in regards to fitness. fITN 1011 | 28 hrs $289 date loc JAN. 13 – APR. 21 ONLINE MAY 12 – AUG. 18 ONLINE Major Incident Command Students will learn how to deal concisely and expertly with crisis situations, and to develop negotiation and mediation skills applicable to policing. pOLc 4003 | 42 hrs $666.12 loc date day time JAN. 12 – APR. 17 ONLINE OL Interpersonal and Group Dynamics In this introductory level course designed for Police Foundations, students learn to apply knowledge from interpersonal relations and group dynamics to working in a team. Emphasis will be placed on utilizing effective communication skills with individuals and groups. Are they born that way, or are they products of society? Are serial killers really possessed with evil, or do they know exactly what they are doing? In this course, students will study how and why some individuals become criminals and why some actually become killers. You will study what is known about serial killers, stalkers, rapists and criminals. Also, the latest techniques used in criminal profiling and questioning will be examined. pSYL 1005 | 42 hrs $397.50 date loc JAN. 13 – APR. 21 ONLINE MAY 12 – AUG. 18 ONLINE OL Criminology This course provides an examination of various theoretical explanations of criminal and deviant behaviour including the sociological, biological and psychological perspectives. Criminological theory is related to various types of criminal activity. The reality of crime in Canada including victimology is examined through crime statistics as are the correlations of criminal behaviour. The impact of theory on the development and effectiveness of the criminal justice system is discussed with emphasis on future trends within the system. pfpR 1028 | 28 hrs $289 date loc JAN. 13 – APR. 21 ONLINE FEB. 2 – MAY 11 ONLINE MAY 12 – AUG. 18 ONLINE JUNE 1 – SEPT. 8 ONLINE OL Developmental Psychology This course offers the student a survey of developmental psychology, covering topics across the human lifespan, from infancy through to old age. Through readings and lecture material, students will examine theories of development and the research that bears on these theories. Students will also examine development across the physical, social, emotional, and cognitive domains.
