The course will further explore the issues, trends, and legislation that impact community social services. Problem-solving models and the role of alternative dispute resolution strategies will be examined. Community development and community involvement in dispute resolution, as well public relations and media relations, will be explored. pfpR 2017 | 45 hrs $420.75 date loc JAN. 13 – APR. 21 ONLINE MAY 12 – AUG. 18 ONLINE OL Community Policing 2 This advanced course will allow students to apply and demonstrate crime prevention, problem-oriented policing strategies and elements of volunteerism. Students will be required to assess a community problem and develop, implement and evaluate results to resolve a community problem. The course will examine some occurrences commonly encountered by police officers and will examine the use of relevant legislation and problem management techniques to assist with effectively managing such occurences. pfpR 2020 | 48 hrs $444 date loc JAN. 13 – APR. 21 ONLINE MAY 12 – AUG. 18 ONLINE OL Contemporary Canadian Social Problems In this course, current social science paradigms and theories will be used as a framework for analysis of contemporary social issues relevant to vocations in police services. Topics such as crime, violence, abuse, social stratification, ageism, and racism will be included. OL Criminal and Civil Law This course will enable the student to analyze the elements of an offence, to classify offences and to identify possible defences in criminal cases. This course will also enable the student to analyze the rights and obligations of citizens involving areas of civil law. The student will recognize the responsibilities and limitations of citizens and police officers in light of the Charter of Rights and Freedoms. Offences against the person, as well as property, weapons and public order offences will be examined. Students will apply knowledge acquired in Criminal and Civil Law to be able to determine the facts at issue for the offences discussed. pfpR 2019 | 42 hrs $397.50 date loc JAN. 13 – APR. 21 ONLINE MAY 12 – AUG. 18 ONLINE OL Criminal Code and Civil Law This course will enable a student to analyze the elements of an offence, to classify offences and to identify possible defences in criminal cases. LAWS 1016 | 42 hrs $397.50 date loc JAN. 13 – APR. 21 ONLINE MAY 12 – AUG. 18 ONLINE OL Criminal Code and Federal Statuses Students will analyze elements of offences related to weapons and the Firearms Act, controlled drugs and substances and the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
