Students will learn to identify the role of the PSW in relationship to the health challenges. Students will learn about professionalism, person-centred care, the Canadian health care system, the role of the PSW, documentation, communication (verbal and non-verbal) and team building. The Essential Body This course will provide the student with a foundational overview of human anatomy from a systems perspective including but not limited to the gastrointestinal, cardiovascular, respiratory, renal, integumentary, immune, endocrine and reproductive systems. Students will develop an understanding of the community resources available to clients. PSYChOSOCIAL REhABILITATION COuRSES OL Current Trends in Mental Health Students study current developments and issues in Psychosocial Rehabilitation (PSR) and discuss how topic issues are reflected in current practice, program and organization. Students explore topics using the PSR framework to enhance and consolidate their knowledge and practice of PSR. pSYL 1015 | 42 hrs $397.50 date loc MAY 12 – AUG. 18 ONLINE OL Introduction to Mental Health Students are exposed to psychiatric diagnosis and treatments for adults experiencing major mental illness. Students review related mental health issues, organizations and services and current legislation. pSYL 1016 | 42 hrs $397.50 date loc JAN. 13 – APR. 21 ONLINE MAY 12 – AUG. 18 ONLINE OL Mental Health Practitioners Competencies In this course key practitioner roles in mental health are presented, including community support, peer support, vocational rehabilitation and housing support. Students examine how recovery and psychosocial rehabilitation approaches are integrated within mental health practitioner roles, and they determine the specific competencies integral to each of the roles. pSYL 1014 | 42 hrs $397.50 date loc JAN. 13 – APR. 21 ONLINE MAY 12 – AUG. 18 ONLINE OL Mental Health Services This course focuses on the application of the psychosocial rehabilitation framework within programs. The measurement of psychosocial rehabilitation outcomes is described and a range of psychosocial rehabilitation programs are illustrated.
