Georgian operates three Centres for Career and Employment Services that can assist the general public with developing a career plan, preparing resumes, improving interview skills, creating cover letters, uncovering job leads and getting matched to a job. Our centres offer access for all ages to computers, telephones, photocopiers, fax machines, job postings, workshops and much more for job searching and career planning. Information and resources on trades and apprenticeships are available. Centre staff can assist employers with recruiting candidates who are ready to work. SJS supports summer employment for students by providing employers with an hourly hiring subsidy to hire youth in the summer. These include software and hardware upgrades in student computer labs, the establishment of high-tech classrooms on all three main campuses, internet access and an Open Learning Centre for students. student id card This fee covers the cost of the student ID card which is required to write exams, pick up OSAP loans, to access library services, gain admission to the Student Centre, borrow athletic equipment, access computer labs and when dealing with service areas. student success This fee covers the costs of a number of service areas such as Career Services, the Centre for Access, Counselling, Orientation and Peer Services to ensure effective learning experiences for students. co-operative education This fee covers a portion of the costs of administration and services provided. This fee must be paid by students enrolled in a co-operative program. Students in co-op programs will be charged an additional $0.77/ hour for courses. convocation The convocation fee covers all costs directly related to graduation preparation (i.e. diplomas and certificates, ceremonies, etc.). The convocation fee must be paid by all students at the beginning of their program. This fee is non-refundable to non-graduates. alumni The alumni fee must be paid by students at the beginning of their program and is a "once only" fee. It provides the student with a lifetime membership in the college Alumni Association. Further details are available from the Alumni office. This fee is non- refundable to non-graduates. communications placement assessment (cpa) An assessment process used by the college to place students into appropriate courses.
