Managing Human Resources for Contractors This course provides practical information for today's construction manager regarding recruiting, hiring, training and compensating employees. Mechanical Maintenance 1 This theory-based training focuses on learning the basics of millwrighting including rigging, basic metallurgy, drilling, theory of machine tool operation and leveling machinery. Mechanical Maintenance 2 This theory-based training focuses on understanding the operation of power transmissions, gear types, calculations, couplings, uses and limits of clutches, balancing types of belts and drives, chain drives and bearings, fits and clearances. ODP Certification This course is for students who have never been issued an ODP card (or the card has expired) by the Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Institute (HRAI) or the Ministry of Environment (MOE) and are seeking certification. The course deals with the environmental issues regarding ozone-depleting substances used in refrigeration and air conditioning systems to comply with federal and provincial regulations. Course materials are provided. Note: If the expiry date on an ODP card has passed, MOE requires the individual to take the full one-day course again. On Site Sewage Systems – 2012 This overview course examines the requirements related to the on-site sewage systems regulated under the Ontario Building Code 2012. The requirements related to these systems are found in Part 8 of the Code. Topics include permits, responsibilities, site conditions, the five classes of sewage systems, construction, occupational health and safety, evaluation of malfunctioning systems change-of-use procedures and more. You must bring a copy of the Ontario Building Code 2012 and the On-site Sewage Systems – 2012 manual to the first class. TEcH 0043 | 36 HRS $365 loc date day time BA JAN. 13 – MAR. 31 TUE 7 – 10 P.M. Outboard Engine Basics This course will provide the student with a basic understanding of outboard engine basics. Procedures ranging from oil changes, diagnostics, troubleshooting and repair will be discussed demonstrated and practised. Students will also learn the importance of preventative maintenance. Part 9 Buildings – Structural Requirements This advanced course deals with the structural provisions and limitations of Division B – Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code. Explore legal considerations; soil conditions; excavations, footings and foundations; transfer of forces acting on a building; masonry construction; trusses; and special separations and exposure protection. You must bring a copy of the Ontario Building Code 2012 and Part 9 Building – Structural Requirements manual to the first class. TEcH 0030 | 36 HRS (TExT ExTRA) $365 loc date day time BA MAY 5 – JULY 21 TUE 7 – 10 P.M. Part 9 House Building Envelope This course examines the construction of houses as single detached dwellings under Division B Part 9 of the Ontario Building Code 2012. Topics covered include building inspectors' plans, building permits and site plans; construction of foundations; floors-on-ground; reinforced concrete slabs; roofs and ceilings; and floors and walls including brick veneer. You must bring a copy of the Ontario Building Code 2012 and the Part 9: The House Building Envelope manual to the first class. TEcH 0028 | 36 HRS (TExT ExTRA) $365 loc date day time BA JAN. 15 – APR. 2 THU 7 – 10 P.M. Part 9 House Health and Safety This course examines the plans and inspection of health and safety aspects of the house as found in the Ontario Building Code 2012. Topics covered include fire safety and protection; chimneys, fireplaces, inserts and solid-fuel-burning appliances; stairs; guards; insulation; health and comfort requirements; party walls; and final interior and exterior inspections. You must bring a copy of the Ontario Building Code 2012 and the Part 9: The House Health and Safety manual to the first class.
