Continuing Education & Part-time Studies Guide Winter/Spring 2015 continuingeducation@georgiancollege.ca 94 Creative and visual art Programs EuROPEAN STYLE GARMENT MAKING – INTRODuCTION EGMI (RECOGNITION OF SuCCESSFuL COMPLETION) This program teaches a comprehensive garment construction method which builds on skills learned in the European Pattern Drafting program. Using previously drafted custom patterns, students learn sewing and tailoring techniques to create garments for personal use that fit perfectly. As students progress through the courses, they will learn to consider design, fabrics, drape, finishing and lines to apply to their sewing techniques. Completing this credential along with the European Pattern Drafting — Introduction credential, is the conclusion of the text: Le Grand Chic – Pattern Drafting and Basic Tailoring which is the first level of skills required in working toward an Italian credential from Le Grand Chic School of Fashion in Latina, Italy. GINT 1031 Learn to Sew is recommended for applicants without previous sewing experience. cReatiVe and Visual aRt RECOGNITION OF SuCCuSSFuL COMPLETION European Style Pattern and Garment Making is a flat-pattern making method that allows you to focus on the fit of your creations. Enhance your sewing techniques and learn to start creating your own bespoke garments in this intensive, fast-paced course, delivered in a condensed timeframe. • Learn trade secrets for achieving that impeccable, one-of-kind fit • Create life-size patterns using your personal measurements of bodice front and back complete with darts, set-in sleeve, circle skirts and volants • Using broadcloth, create various sample garments This method of flat pattern drafting was introduced and perfected in Italy in the 1950's and has been widely used on the runways of Europe. Instructor Maria Calautti was formally trained at Le Grand Chic School of Fashion in Italy. She has earned exclusive rights in North America to provide training and share her expertise. This program is available only through Georgian College. Prior knowledge of sewing is recommended. A maximum of six students per course means a lot of one-on-one time. Tool kit: $315 (direct from Italy), this kit includes a textbook, pre-marked, specialized tailor squares and a measuring tape. You will be provided with drafting paper and broadcloth.
