PN Health and Healing 4 This course builds on the previous Health and Healing courses. The experiences of individuals and families living with mental health challenges and life transitions such as pregnancy, birth and pediatric health issues will be examined. PN Professional Practice 3 This course will provide the student with a variety of nursing practice settings where they can interact with clients and families experiencing common health problems. The student will promote health and healing for clients and families both independently and in consultation with others. The student will apply the theories and concepts examined and explored in the co-requisite Practical Nursing Health and Healing 3 and other courses. MU JAN. 7 – APR. 15 TUE & WED TBD PN Professional Practice 4 This course provides students with the opportunity to interact with clients and families experiencing life transitions, and more complex health problems. The student will use healing practices to promote health for clients both independently and in consultation with others. The student will investigate the leadership/management role as well as apply other theories and concepts examined and explored in the co-requisite Practical Nursing Health and Healing 4 and other courses. NRSG 2005 | 168 hrs loc date day time OS MAY 6 – AUG. 13 WED – THU TBD Physical Assessment This combination theory and practice course will provide the student with the skills to perform effective physical assessments of their clients. Students will review psychomotor skills such as inspection percussion, palpation and auscultation using relevant and up-to-date technology. Interview skills and medical history taking techniques will also be reviewed and practiced in this course. The significance of assessment findings and effective history taking will be reviewed in relation to cultural implications and in relation to the stage of growth and development of the client with particular emphasis on the normal expected age-related changes. Physics: A Conceptual View This course is intended as a conceptual course in introductory physics for students majoring in fields other than mathematics, pure science or engineering. It will provide students with a clear and logical presentation of some of the basic concepts and principles of physics as they apply to the world view. The focus will be to consolidate previously learned nursing skills and knowledge and to function both independently and in collaboration with others when caring for individuals, families and groups. Prior to entering the practice setting, students will attend classroom sessions with faculty in order to prepare for praxis, develop learning plans and portfolios, and to write and take up mock examinations. Additional classroom time will occur at the end of praxis where the focus will be on portfolio completion/review and additional practice and preparation for the College of Nurses registration exams. Upon completion of the consolidation period the student will be ready to graduate as a caring competent practitioner. NRSG 2010 | 450 hrs loc date day time BA JAN. 5 – APR. 17 TBD Process of Human Disease: Advanced Concepts This course will build on the Processes of Human Disease: Introduction course. The student will continue to explore the concepts of pathology and the effect on the structure and functioning of the body. Overall mechanisms of disease have been categorized into concepts and these concepts will be examined for the effect that they produce on each of the body systems. These concepts will be examined for the effect that they produce on the structure and function of the body. Common diseases will be used to illustrate each concept.
