Here to Help
First Year Transition Advisors are available at
every campus. Advisors can help students
access needed supports, become involved in
their campus, and get information on rst-year
programming and student services. Barrie
students can drop into B115, Orillia, A200; and
Owen Sound, 607. Advisors regularly visit the
Orangeville, Midland, Muskoka and South
Georgian Bay campuses to ensure all students
at Georgian College get the help they need.
Orientation Day kicks off each semester and is
a great opportunity for students to learn more
about their program, connect with other
students, meet with faculty and get acquainted
with Georgian. You do not want to miss this
awesome day!
Things to know this month:
• The deadline for opting out of the student
health and dental program (if you have alternate
coverage) is at the end of September
• Aboriginal students should visit an Aboriginal
Resource Centre. They are located at the Barrie,
Midland, Orillia and Owen Sound campuses
• Are you a First Generation student? (Your
parents did not attend a college or university)?
You can benet from meeting with your First
Generation Advisor for support and information
on programs specically for you, like the First
Generation Bursary. Email for more information at

You have begun a journey, a journey that should be
walked in partnership with family, classmates, teachers,
and college and community supports. My advice: Get
Faculty and Academic Coach
connected. During your rst week of school, nd an accountability
partner, a classmate with whom you can strive for perfect attendance,
discuss challenging concepts, and, most importantly, graduate! Once
your accountability partner is in place, join with other partners to build
study groups. Keep each other on task. Challenge each other to
stretch your learning, academic, and career goals. We become the
company we keep. Choose wisely and share the best of yourself.
