First Generation Student Services Are you a First Generation student? First Generation students are individuals whose parents have never attended part- or full-time postsecondary studies in Canada or elsewhere; not including siblings. Often First Generation students have questions or challenges that they nd overwhelming. A First Generation Advisor is a go-to person on campus that students can meet up with. If you have questions, concerns or just need to sort out an issue, your First Generation Advisor can help! There is also a First Generation Bursary given out once a year. The bursary application is due the last business day in January. The application can be found online or you can ask your First Generation Advisor for a copy. Weather can be a concern during the winter months. Extreme weather may dictate a campus closure or class cancellation. Closure of the college and widespread cancellation of classes will be announced on our website and on local radio stations. Your safety is our biggest priority. As the semester wraps up, you may be experiencing a higher level of stress entering nal exams. Keep the end goal in mind and try to be as organized as possible to eliminate as much anxiety as possible. Things to know this month: • Make a note of important dates, including registration for winter semester, OSAP deadlines and college holiday closures • Students may be experiencing nancial stress going into the holidays; be sure to take the time to research awards and scholarships that are available online • Celebrate the end of your rst semester and enjoy the holiday break Maria Edwards Participating in tness and sports can enhance your health and well-being and add balance to student life. Joining a gym, trying a new tness class or playing a Fitness Co-ordinator Georgian Athletics sport are great ways to add exercise to your day and can increase your energy, boost your mood and help you manage stress. As of this year, your tness fees are included in your tuition. Take advantage of the on- and off-campus facilities in your community. There are programs and services for students at all levels of tness and ability — be active, be healthy.
