2016/2017 PART-TIME STUDIES GUIDE parttimestudies@georgiancollege.ca 90 PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT COURSES 90 FITCO – Fitness Test for Ontario Correctional Officer Applicants Test Preparation Course Interested in applying for the position of Correctional Officer with the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Service? This course provides students the opportunity to practise with the equipment and learn the proper techniques required to pass the Fitness Test for Ontario Correctional Officer Applicants (FITCO). Students receive training and nutritional information to help them prepare for the FITCO, which is comprised of a Search Station, an Emergency Response Circuit and the Leger Shuttle Run. Students must bring the completed Correctional Services Recruitment Unit issued "FITCO Informed Consent and Release", "PAR-Q", "Participant Performance Declaration" and if necessary the PARmedX forms. JUST 0060 | 3 HRS $150 P.A.R.E. This course includes an overview of the PARE with a practical component. Individuals review the PARE video with a discussion involving techniques and component demonstration. Hands-on practical experience under the guidelines set by the RCMP and the Calgary City Police Service is included. Certification is issued onsite for candidates meeting the standards set by the RCMP or Calgary City Police Service during the testing session. All sessions are held in the gym. The PREP information package includes test protocol waiver and medical clearance information (PDF). JUST 0009 | 3 HRS $90 P.R.E.P. This course includes an overview of the PREP with a practical component. Individuals review the PREP video with a discussion involving techniques and component demonstration. Hands- on practical experience under the guidelines set by the OACP (Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police) and the Solicitor General is included. No certificate is issued during the preparation course. All sessions are held in the gym. The PREP information package includes test protocol, waiver and medical clearance information (PDF). JUST 0008 | 3 HRS $142.14 Private Investigator Licence Preparation The Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services now requires all private investigators in the Province of Ontario to successfully complete mandatory training and testing to obtain a licence. This course will allow individuals an opportunity to effectively develop the mandated skills and competencies to prepare to complete the testing. You will review the ministry required components at your own pace. In addition, you will be able to complete practice examinations to gauge your test- readiness. JUST 0044 | ONLINE $47 Principles/Values in Policing Critically examining the practical, ethical dilemmas facing police officers, this online course exposes students to understanding the importance of morals and ethics and personal integrity as they relate to expected outcomes of action. Based on many true-life accounts, with reference links to police leadership ideals, students examine both theoretical and practical applications of moral and ethical behaviours. Students will be introduced to the principles of adult learning and the skills required for successful instruction. This module must be completed as the first module. TATA 0001 | 12 HRS $209 TT2: Engaging Adult Learners Engaging adult learners by creating and maintaining a positive learning climate is a challenge in any instructional setting. The impact of adult learning theories and styles on student engagement will be discussed and demonstrated. Students will learn how they can increase levels of student engagement. TATA 0002 | 6 HRS $130 TT3: Preparing a Lesson or Workshop Students will plan a lesson or using a template that focuses on learning outcomes, learning activities and approaches to assessment. Varying teaching and training methods responds to diverse learning styles and enables appropriate assessment of adult learning.
