In their evaluation of evil, students consider the various material, historical, and conceptual conditions that allow for humans to act at their absolute worst as well as survey both classical and contemporary literature in the humanities that enlighten us to the nature of evil. Students focus on forms of corporate capitalism; the historic spread of capitalism as a world system; globalization and neoliberalism. INTS 1007 | 42 HRS $717.36 Integrated Science This course is an introduction to science for non-science majors, exposing students to scientific and technological issues in application to real-world scenarios. Concepts from a variety of disciplines will be incorporated, including biology, chemistry, physics, physiology and technology. Students are required to critically assess scientific theory in relation to social concerns. SCEN 1000 | 42 HRS $717.36 Introduction to Psychology 1 This course is a survey of various specialty areas within contemporary psychology. Theories and research related to content areas such as Historical Perspectives, Research Methods, the Brain and Behaviour, Lifespan Development, Sensation and Perception, States of Consciousness and Learning are examined. Further, students integrate concepts of empiricism and scientific inquiry across these content areas. This course in combination with Introduction to Psychology II provides students with the requisite knowledge to study psychology at senior levels. PSYC 1000 | 42 HRS $717.36 Introduction to Psychology 2 This course is a survey of various specialty areas within contemporary psychology. Students consider current psychological theories and research related to content areas such as Cognition, Intelligence, Motivation, Emotion, Personality, Social Behaviour, Psychology Disorders, Therapies and Health Psychology. Further, students integrate concepts of empiricism and specific inquiry across these content areas. This course in combination with Introduction to Psychology 1 provides students with the requisite knowledge to study at senior levels. PSYC 1001 | 42 HRS $717.36 Music History This survey course provides students with an introduction to the historical development of Western music. Students are introduced to the terms, names and dates of music history, to theories of history, to stylistic analysis of specific works through musical scores and recordings, and to methods for expressing historical concepts. This course has strong listening and writing components. HUMA 2002 | 42 HRS $717.36 PUBLIC SAFETY AND EMERGENCY SERVICES COURSES Basic Security Guard Preparation This basic security guard training course provides the knowledge and skills to meet the mandate under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act (2005). This course addresses both working and detailed knowledge to prepare the student to successfully complete the ministry test prior to applying for a security guard licence. Topics include legislation, basic security procedures, emergency response, communications, and health and safety. The student will complete the first portion of the working knowledge of the course through instructor-led web- based training (32 hours) and finish the detailed knowledge training in-class (8 hours). Standard First Aid and Level C CPR certificate is required. JUST 0042 | 40 HRS $250 Condensed Security Training This blended learning of instructor-led web-based distance learning and in-class condensed basic security guard training provides the additional basic knowledge and skills to meet the mandate under the Private Security and Investigative Services Act (2005) that are not currently included in the Police Foundations or Polices Studies degree programs. It is tailored to those who have graduated from Police Foundations or Police Studies degree in the last three years, or those currently working in the Law Enforcement field. This condensed course addresses the additional working and detailed knowledge required to prepare the student to successfully complete the ministry test prior to applying for a security guard licence. Components required include Introduction to Security Industry, Private Security and Investigation Services Act, Basic Security Procedures, Emergency Response, and Use of Force. The student will complete the first portion of the working knowledge of the course through instructor-led, web-based training (12 hours) and finish the detailed knowledge training in-class (8 hours). Standard First Aid and Level C CPR certificate is required JUST 0048 | 20 HRS $125 Emergency Services Communicator 1 Part one introduces the principles of emergency communication and concentrates on generic roles and responsibilities for police, fire and ambulance service communicators. JUST 0001 | 36 HRS $305 Emergency Services Communicator 2 Part two introduces emergency communications for police, fire and ambulance service communicators as it applies to a disaster situation and identifies the practical skills required for the position. JUST 0002 | 36 HRS $305 FITCO – Fitness Test for Ontario Correctional Officer Applicants This course provides an opportunity for Correctional Officer applicants to receive certification for the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services Occupational Fitness Test (FITCO). This is a requirement in the recruitment process for Correctional Officers with the Ministry. Students become familiar with and practise FITCO protocols. FITCO is comprised of a Search Station, an Emergency Response Circuit and the Leger Shuttle Run. Students must bring the completed Correctional Services Recruitment Unit issued "FITCO Informed Consent and Release", "PAR-Q", "Participant Performance Declaration" and if necessary, the PARmedX forms.
