2016/2017 PART-TIME STUDIES GUIDE parttimestudies@georgiancollege.ca 102 GENERAL INFORMATION GRADUATION Students who have completed an entire program and feel they qualify for a college certificate, diploma or degree may complete a Request to Graduate form. Forms are available at the Office of the Registrar at any campus or online at GeorgianCollege.ca/ admissions/forms/. Please note that graduation fees are payable at the time of submitting your Request to Graduate form and are non-refundable (refer to the certificate and diploma fees section on page 103). Please allow eight weeks for processing. GRADUATION TIMELINES Students must complete all required courses to graduate within the allowed timeline for their program as follows: Normal length of program Maximum time allowed (from start) One Semester program (four to eight courses) One year One year program (two semesters) Two years Two year program (four or five semesters) Four years Three year program (six semesters) Six years Four year degree program Eight years The normal length of a program is based on the length of time it would take to complete the program as a full time student. Part time students that maintain constant registration may be eligible to extend the timeline by a reasonable amount of time to allow them to complete the program according to the curriculum in place at the time they started. STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARD The student identification card is not mandatory but it can be used to identify yourself as a student at the college, for library access at the Barrie, Orillia and Owen Sound campuses and as identification in all service areas and computer labs. NOTE: A student identification card can be purchased for $5.67 per semester from the Office of the Registrar in Barrie, Orillia and Owen Sound. To have a photograph taken, one piece of government-issued photo ID is required. GEORGIAN STORES, TEXTBOOKS Worried about where to get those new and used textbooks and course materials? It is the student's responsibility to be familiar with these policies. GRADE APPEALS The procedure to appeal a grade is outlined at GeorgianCollege.ca/admissions/policies-procedures/. PROGRESSION POLICY The promotional status of part-time students will be assessed once they have completed six (6) credit courses. They must achieve a weighted average of at least 60 per cent in each term to proceed in good standing. Those with averages between 50 and 60 per cent will be placed on probation and under 50 per cent on academic warning. ACADEMIC MISCONDUCT POLICY (CHEATING, PLAGIARISM) Academic misconduct includes cheating, plagiarism and facilitating academic dishonesty by providing your work to others for them to submit as their own. Although these incidents are a rare occurrence, they do happen occasionally. An academic misconduct is a very serious offence and penalties applied to students involved in these incidents are accordingly severe.
