A pass grade is 50 per cent unless indicated otherwise. The highest grade achieved will be used in calculating a program average (if applicable). The course listings and academic programs described in this calendar represent college-approved requirements and electives for completion of certificate, diploma and degree requirements. EMPLOYMENT ONTARIO ACADEMIC AND CAREER PREPARATION This program is designed to help students bring their reading, writing, math and other essential skills to the high school level. In this program, students can build skills or work toward high school credit equivalencies. The Academic and Career Entrance (ACE) certificate is recognized as equivalent to a Grade 12 diploma by all Ontario colleges and by many employers. ACE also meets the requirements for entrance into apprenticeship across the province. The ACE certificate is made up of four credits, including: Mandatory courses • Communications • Core Math Any two of the following courses Individual ACE courses are also recognized as Grade 11 or 12 equivalent credits for college and apprenticeship entrance. Refresh skills and learn new ones in a custom-tailored program. In addition, students can prepare for the GED test through Academic and Career Preparation. GED allows students to achieve a high school diploma equivalent by demonstrating relevant academic knowledge and skills. Successful GED candidates earn the Ontario High School Equivalency Certificate through the Independent Learning Centre. Georgian College does not administer the GED test with the exception of the Orangeville Campus, which hosts the GED Testing twice per year. Academic and Career Preparation is funded by the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities, as an Employment Ontario program, providing free upgrading for eligible learners. There is no tuition fee for most applicants. Assistance with childcare or travel costs may also be available. Need a bit more help? You are invited to apply to the Academic and Career Preparation program if you are 19 years of age or older and a resident of Ontario. Some applicants 16 to 18 years of age may also be eligible. These services include help with developing career plans, preparing resumés, improving interview skills, creating cover letters and more! These centres, funded by Employment Ontario, also provide access to computers, telephones, photocopiers, fax machines, job postings and workshops.
