The program
As a student in the Veterinary Assistant program, you'll be provided with the opportunity
to acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes required to assist veterinary professionals
in the practise of veterinary medicine and also in other animal care settings. This
program will prepare you to handle and restrain companion animals as well as perform
basic husbandry and clinical procedures. You'll also learn a variety of basic diagnostic
laboratory techniques, surgical support procedures and receptionist and client relation
skills. You'll learn and reinforce your skills and knowledge through a combination of
lecture and hands-on laboratory practise in our Orillia Campus veterinary hospital.
This program is recognized by the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. Georgian
College is accredited by the Canadian Council on Animal Care as a Good Animal
Practice facility.

Admission requirements
OSSD or equivalent with
• Grade 12 English (C or U)
• Grade 11 or 12 biology (C or U)
Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (19 years or older) and home school
applicants may also be considered for admission. Eligibility may be met by applicants
who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED and equivalency

Applicants who have taken courses from a recognized and accredited postsecondary
institution and/or have relevant life/learning experience may also be considered for
