The program In this program, you'll acquire the skills, knowledge and attitudes required to become an integral member of a veterinary health care team. You'll explore the range of activities carried out in companion and/or large animal practices, animal shelters, biomedical facilities, zoos or wildlife facilities. Through in-class theory and simulations, combined with clinical experience in local facilities, you'll learn to care for and handle animals, understand the basic principles of normal and abnormal life processes and carry out routine laboratory and clinical procedures. This program is recognized by the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians and the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association. Georgian College is accredited by the Canadian Council on Animal Care as a Good Animal Practice facility. Graduate career opportunities Veterinary hospitals, animal shelters, clinics, pharmaceutical sales, zoos, diagnostic labs, kennels and grooming facilities, racetracks, livestock health management, food animal inspections. Graduates are eligible to write Veterinary Technician National Examination and apply for Registered Veterinary Technician status in Ontario. Admission requirements OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English (C or U) • Grade 12 mathematics (C or U) • Grade 11 or 12 biology (C or U) • Grade 11 or 12 chemistry (C or U) Mature students, non-secondary school applicants (19 years or older) and home school applicants may also be considered for admission. Eligibility may be met by applicants who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED and equivalency testing.
