14 GEORGIANVIEW SPRING 2023 PREMIER'S AwARDS APPRENTICESHIP Rena Lang | Hairstylist Apprenticeship (class of 2007) Graduate, professor, and innovator, Rena is helping train the next generation of hairstylists at Georgian. During the COVID-19 pandemic campus closure, Rena introduced new digital teaching methods to ensure students could complete their studies, and launched a program to recycle and re-purpose 95 per cent of the hairstyling program waste into new products. A passionate mental health advocate, she founded the Cut the Crap! cut-a-thon, an annual event funding mental health care. | Rena and her son celebrate her nomination in November 2022. RECENT GRAD Patricia Di Chiara Culinary Management (class of 2017) Patricia came to Canada as an international student, crediting Georgian with providing her the theoretical and practical skills she needed to be successful in the culinary industry. She's the founder and chief executive officer of Luisella Foods Inc., a line of chocolate spreads that contain all-natural ingredients, high-quality cocoa and sunflower seeds. It's a kosher and certified non-GMO, nut- and gluten-free line of products that includes plant-based, vegan and dairy-free options. TECHNOLOGY Mark Schick | General Business – Marketing (class of 1983) Mark is an award-winning chief executive officer of the world-renowned Advanced Motion & Controls, headquartered in Barrie. Employing the latest in electronic, pneumatic, robotic and mechatronic systems, his business was identified as critical to Canadian infrastructure as a distributor of factory automation products and manufacturing.
