FITNESS AND HEALTH PROMOTION, 2016 CLIENT ADvISOR, INTERNATIONAL HOCKEY GROUP WHEN THE DREAM ENDS, WHAT'S NEXT? Gregg Sutch In 2008, Gregg Sutch was a star player with his hometown York Simcoe Express, before being drafted 11th overall to the Ontario Hockey League's (OHL) Sarnia Sting. Two years later, he was selected 143rd in the 2010 National Hockey League (NHL) entry draft by the Buffalo Sabres. "Players are expected to be a certain way," says Gregg about being drafted into the NHL. "The pressure becomes huge. You have two years to prove yourself and get signed. That is all you think about." However, the contract didn't come and two years later at the age of 22, he was asking himself, "What's next?" in an emotional blog post. Gregg had already overcome so much. He played for four different teams in the OHL, suffered numerous injuries, including six concussions and three separated shoulders, and spent his entire hockey career playing the game while wearing hearing aids. He enrolled in Georgian's Fitness and Health Promotion program, with the intention of one day becoming a player agent. "I have all this experience to share," he notes, when discussing his passion for helping younger players to prepare for the transition to a professional career. "Five years ago, I was in their shoes." Today, Gregg has rediscovered his love of the game, and has a message for anyone contemplating his or her own future. "Do what you love to do. If that means you love to take care of people as a nurse, be a nurse. If you love to serve people dinner, be a server. If you love to teach people, be a teacher. Do it for the right reasons. Whatever you choose to do, don't forget why you chose it in the first place."
