11 NAVIGATION CONTACT US – 1.866.468.3225 CMTR@georgiancollege.ca BRIDGE WATCH RATING (EXAM PREP) This course is intended for mariners with a minimum of six months deck experience and will prepare them to challenge the TCMSS Bridge Watchman exam. Delivery will be a combination of theory and practical skills, e.g., seaman's obligations, safe working practices, review of general ship knowledge, gyro and magnetic compass, keeping a lookout, detached duties including communication systems and verbal communications, rope work and wire splicing. Other Transport Canada requirements include medical certificate, MED DVS (formerly MED A1), B1, B2, or STCW Basic Safety and STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft and Rescue Boats other than Fast Rescue Boats, Marine Basic First Aid and an eight- hour steering testimonial. Course code: MARI 0065 Course length: seven days (48 hours) Course fee: $1,170 ELECTRONIC CHART AND DISPLAY INFORMATION SYSTEM (ECDIS) An Electronic Chart Display and Information System (ECDIS) is a highly advanced and powerful navigational aid, specifically designed for enhancing safety at sea. Participants will be required to demonstrate proper use of the ECDIS equipment, including the use of navigational functions associated with route planning and monitoring; the ability to select, display and interpret relevant information; and knowing what proper action to take in case of malfunction. Course code: MARI 0187 Course length: six days (40 hours) Course fee: $1,300 SIMULATED ELECTRONIC NAVIGATION 1A (SEN 1A) At course completion participants will possess a knowledge of the principles, the ability to use and the skill required for the correct operation of the following navigational equipment: radar, ARPA, radar plotting, satellite navigation (GPS/DGPS), Loran-C, gyrocompass, auto pilot, course recorder and echo sounder. Course code: MARI 0003 Prerequisites: CDN Course length: 15 days (120 hours) Course fee: $1,850 SIMULATED ELECTRONIC NAVIGATION 1B (SEN 1B) At the completion of this course, participants will possess a thorough knowledge of the application of the collision regulations and the principles to be observed in keeping a navigational watch in a simulated environment. Electronic aids will be utilized to plot the ship's position and progress and, in a one-on-one ship situation, take necessary action to avoid collision without putting the vessel at risk. Course code: MARI 0103 Prerequisites: 18 months sea time, knowledge of Chartwork (040/041), Rules of the Road (061/060), ROC-MC, SEN1A, CDN Course length: 12 days (72 hours) Course fee: $1,550 (Transport Canada examination fee is extra) SIMULATED ELECTRONIC NAVIGATION 2 (SEN 2) This course will enable participants to make appropriate decisions in complex navigational situations, to effectively manage the bridge watch-keeping team and to comply with the standards regarding watch-keeping in a simulated environment. Participants will prepare and execute a voyage plan from berth to berth using the necessary instruments and publications while assuming the duties and responsibilities of the Master aboard ships having specified maneuvering characteristics. Course code: MARI 0102 Prerequisites: SEN1A and SEN1B or or Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security approved qualifying service, ROC-MC, CDN Course length: 13 days (84 hours) Course fee: $1,995 (Transport Canada examination fee is extra)
