19 67 Late politician George McCague was named the first Chairman of the Board of Georgian College in 1967. One of his first items of business for his board was to name the college. His uncompromising commitment to public and community service set a strong example for the 30 board chairs who have followed since. Carol Anne fondly recalls the first event that brought all students together – building an ice sculpture for Barrie's winter carnival. "Most nights we went home cold and wet but it was great." The classroom lessons were memorable too. Sharon says she used her Georgian training every day throughout her 47-year career as a medical secretary. GEORGE R.
