She said yes! Students, staff and guests were treated to a surprise marriage proposal at the Design and Visual Arts Annual Scholarship Show awards ceremony at the Barrie Campus on April 28. XuYang (Reno) Cong got down on bended knee and proposed to YuWei (Serena) Yang, his girlfriend of seven years, with a diamond he personally cut by hand. Serena was completely surprised. "I never thought he would propose in front of so many people," she says. The young couple are both international students from China who plan to stay in Canada. No wedding date has been set, but they are planning a traditional wedding in China. Students who created their business "Luisella" proved they weren't nuts to design a chocolate spread after it earned them first place and $2,000 in the annual Georgian Den competition at the Barrie Campus on April 10. Culinary Management students Patricia Di Chiara, Emily Behm and Trisha Speakman came up with the nut-free chocolate spread after Patricia's family moved to Canada from Italy and couldn't take their beloved chocolate spread to school due to nut allergies. Luisella was one of about 30 student-led businesses from the Hospitality and Business programs that showcased the business idea they cultivated over the semester.
