Andrew Baker has made an incredible mark helping others and creating meaningful change in LGBT and Indigenous communities. He's currently senior development officer for the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association in Geneva, Switzerland – an organization with consultative status at the United Nations Economic and Social Council. Andrew sources revenue, conducts research and develops reports, leads strategic programming, and supports recommendations adopted for action or policy on promoting and protecting human rights. "Through my work, I hope to ensure marginalized voices are heard and supported, community organizations become more sustainable and the world a more equitable place," he says. In recognition of his efforts, Andrew received the 2017 Lifetime Achievement Award at the Inspire Awards in Toronto. He's the youngest person – at age 33 – to receive this honour. Among his achievements, Andrew founded three LGBT organizations including Fierté Simcoe Pride. He's also raised more than $2 million through grants and corporate sponsorship since graduating from Georgian – notably designing and implementing 10 Indigenous programs focused on resilience and preparing youth for employment. He serves as vice president of governance at Fierté Canada Pride and vice president of operations at Interpride. Andrew also teaches at Georgian and is faculty advisor for Georgian Pride, the student LGBT club he helped form.
