Discover a new career, gain work experience, and make a difference in your community. CICAN – SUPPORTIVE CARE ASSISTANT Essential Skills for Supportive Care − Supportive Lab Skills This intensive one-day, six-hour training session includes the demonstration of and practical exercises of housekeeping skills such as bed-making, laundry, basic meal prep, environmental services and skill demonstration of lifts and transfers, personal care and infection control. Students hone skills through hands-on demonstrations and receive specific feedback aimed at ensuring confidence in their ability to provide safe and effective care. HSCI 0291 | 6 HRS | BA $115.88 SUPPORTIVE CARE ASSISTANT ONLINE PROGRAM Supportive Care Assistant Program This program is a new fully subsidized micro-certificate developed to address the labour shortages in the long-term care sector. The program allows students to discover a new career, gain work experience, and make a difference in their community. The micro-certificate program includes a four-month work placement in a long-term or home- care setting. Students gain experience to help them prepare for a career in the sector while providing much needed support to long-term and home care staff. There is no cost for tuition or to register for the program. Bursaries are available for dependent care and transportation during the student's work placement. Students may be expected to cover certain costs associated with the placement including a criminal record check or other employment requirements. 660 HRS | BA, ONLINE NO FEE Essential Skills for Supportive Care − Feeding Assistance In this course, students focus on the fundamentals of assisting clients with feeding, dietary and fluid textures, special diets, feeding aids and the dining room experience. This course is part of the Essential Skills for Supportive Care micro-credential certificate. HSCI 0274 | 3 HRS | ONLINE $57.52 Essential Skills for Supportive Care − Wound Care, Hot and Cold Applications In this course, students focus on the principles of basic wound care, risk factors, different types of wounds, wound prevention and treatment, as well as the fundamentals of hot and cold applications and what to observe. This course is part of the Essential Skills for Supportive Care micro-credential certificate. HSCI 0275 | 6 HRS | ONLINE $57.52 Essential Skills for Supportive Care − Personal Hygiene and Elimination In this course, students examine the provision of personal hygiene and grooming to a client and their urinary and bowel elimination needs. This course is part of the Essential Skills for Supportive Care micro-credential certificate. HSCI 0276 | 6 HRS | ONLINE $57.52 Essential Skills for Supportive Care − Basic Math and Assisting with Medical Administration In this course, students focus on basic math principles and the role of an entry-level health care provider in medication assistance and administration.
