INDEX 9 9 SMALL COMMERCIAL BOATING REGISTER NOW – 705.722.1516 OR 1.888.812.7511 marinetraining@georgiancollege.ca MED DVS – DOMESTIC VESSEL SAFETY This course was developed to comply with the requirements of the Marine Personnel Regulations on minimum training in personal survival techniques and firefighting for Canadian seafarers sailing on board passenger vessels, workboats or fishing vessels engaged on a voyage in Canadian waters. The new DVS course replaces the old MED A1 and A2 courses. MED A3 (SMALL NON-PLEASURE VESSEL BASIC SAFETY) The MED A3 course is for crew members of small non-pleasure vessels less than 150 gross tons, including fishing vessels operating not more than 25 miles offshore and passenger vessels, not including ferries, with unberthed accommodations, only on Near Coastal 2 and sheltered waters. At course completion, participants will possess the basic skills to enable the mariner to better function in the marine environment. Topics include marine hazards and emergencies, marine firefighting, lifesaving appliances and abandonment, survival and rescue skills. NOTE: Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security may accept a Pleasure Craft Operator Card (PCOC) for crew members in the following categories: • Passenger carrying vessels less than eight metres and with fewer than six passengers sailing in sheltered waters • Workboats (except tugs) less than eight metres sailing not more than two nautical miles from shore and/or in sheltered waters • Fishing vessels less than 15 gross tonnage sailing not more than two nautical miles from shore and/or in sheltered waters Please contact your local Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security office for clarification.
