22 GENERAL INFORMATION 2017 CENTRE FOR MARINE TRAINING AND RESEARCH marinetraining.ca PARKING Georgian College uses an automated parking system at the Barrie, Midland, Orillia, Owen Sound and South Georgian Bay campuses, employing gate arms activated by a parking card, a set coin fee, or tokens upon exit. Parking on campus is on a first-come, first-served basis in all parking areas. It is imperative that individuals leaving vehicles on college grounds overnight contact Campus Safety and Security. NOTE: Georgian College assumes no risk or responsibility for damage to, or loss of, a vehicle, or its contents, no matter how caused. For full information on this procedure, please refer to the Parking policy on the policies and procedures page of the Georgian College website. The fee is $6 before 7 p.m.; $3 after 7 p.m. (including weekends). It is necessary to have the correct change for the machine. You can also purchase a parking card from the Registration Office for $50.50 per month (fees subject to change). SMOKING POLICY The Smoke-free Ontario Act applies to all campuses of Georgian College. The college is responsible under this legislation to ensure compliance with the smoking regulations under the act. The intent of the act is to provide a near-complete ban on smoking in any enclosed space. At Georgian College, smoking is restricted to specific areas away from building entrances. For further information on this procedure, please refer to the Smoking policy on the policies and procedures page of the Georgian College website. Students who violate this policy will be subject to sanctions available through the college as well as applicable provincial legislation. Avenues pursued may include the Student Code of Conduct, the levying of a monetary fine, and escalating sanctions up to and including expulsion. Violations will be tracked by Campus Safety and Security and notations made to student files as appropriate. At the Owen Sound Campus, the smoking area is located in the gazebo at the back of the building. LOCKDOWN PROCEDURE Although highly unlikely, the possibility of a violent incident occurring at a Canadian postsecondary institution has become a reality in today's society. Accordingly, the college has developed and implemented a lockdown procedure to provide general direction to the college community during an incident in which a lockdown might occur. This lockdown procedure is a resource tool that provides general principles and guidance to members of the Georgian community and is designed to increase the level of preparedness in an attempt to limit the impact of an occurrence. It is expected that students and staff will read the lockdown procedure so they will know how to respond appropriately should an incident occur. For further information on this procedure, please refer to the lockdown procedure on the policies and procedures page of the Georgian College website. TUITION AND OTHER FEES All fees are subject to review and may be changed. Some course fees are subject to HST. Income tax receipts will be available online to eligible students at the end of February. TRANSPORT CANADA MARINE SAFETY AND SECURITY TRAINING CERTIFICATE AND EXAM FEES A Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security (TCMSS) training certificate will be issued upon completion of course hours and passing of exam, as required by TCMSS. The examiner from TCMSS will request an examination fee of $55 for the PPS, SEN 1 and SEN 2 exams. Payment by certified cheque (payable to Transport Canada) is acceptable. We will require your Candidate Document Number issued by TCMSS. NOTE: If you are requesting a reprint of a TCMSS training certificate, you must include a letter of explanation outlining the circumstances, plus a copy of the lead page in your discharge book. If you do not have a discharge book, we require a copy of your driver's licence. This does not automatically guarantee the replacement of the TCMSS training certificate. A charge of $54 applies and must be paid in advance. CANDIDATE DOCUMENT NUMBER (CDN) Persons who require a Canadian Maritime Document or other Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security (TCMSS) document, issued by or on behalf of TCMSS under Part 3 of the Canada Shipping Act, 2001 (CSA 2001), must first obtain a Candidate Document Number (CDN). Applications for a CDN can be obtained from the TCMSS website at tc.gc.ca or from the Marine Training website at marinetraining.ca. NOTE: As of May 2016, Candidate Documentation Numbers are no longer required for enrolling in STCW MED courses, non- STCW MED courses, Marine Basic First Aid or Marine Advanced First Aid. However, they are required for candidates applying for Certificates of Proficiency or Certificates of Competency. Please note that a CDN will continue to be a prerequisite for all non-MED courses such as those designated as Navigation or Engineering courses. Please refer to individual course requirements for more information. PHOTO ID You must bring one piece of current identification bearing your photograph. DO I REQUEST A LIBRARY CARD?
