19 MASTERS CERTIFICATES REGISTER NOW – 705.722.1516 OR 1.888.812.7511 marinetraining@georgiancollege.ca FISHING MASTER FOURTH CLASS OF A FISHING VESSEL 15 TO 100 GROSS TONS The Fishing Masters IV Certificate is an internationally recognized designation issued by Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security (TCMSS). The holder of a Fishing Master, Fourth Class (FM IV) Certificate may act as a master on board a fishing vessel of not more than 100 gross tonnage engaged on a near coastal 1 (up to 200 miles offshore) or sheltered waters voyage and as an officer in charge of a watch of a fishing vessel of any tonnage engaged on a near coastal 1 or sheltered voyage. Candidates will be required to pass the following TCMSS examinations: • Chartwork and Pilotage Level 1 • Navigation Safety Level 1 • Ship Construction and Stability Level 1 • Oral examination on General Seamanship Listed below are the additional Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security requirements for the Fishing Master IV certificate: • TCMSS Marine Medical (must be obtained from a TCMSS approved doctor) • Marine Advanced First Aid • SEN Limited • Marine Emergency Duties DVS (formerly MED A1) • ROC-MC radio licence Sea service required: • 12 months sea service performing deck duties on one or more fishing vessels that are six metres in length Course code: MARI 0172 Course length: 150 hours Course fee: Available upon request If you are unsure of the certification that you need or if you are unsure if you meet the sea service requirements, please contact your local Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security Office. MASTER LIMITED 150 GROSS TONNAGE DOMESTIC The Master Limited 150 Domestic Certificate is a new certificate offered in accordance with the Canada Shipping Act 2001. The holder of a Master 150 Gross Tonnage Domestic may act as: • Master on board a vessel of not more than 150 gross tonnage, engaged on a near coastal voyage, Class 2 • Master on board a vessel of not more than 500 gross tonnage engaged on sheltered waters voyage • Master on board a vessel of not more than 150 gross tonnage engaged on limited voyage, contiguous waters, if endorsed as such Listed below are the additional Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security (TCMSS) requirements for the Master 150 Gross Tonnage Domestic Certificate: • STCW Basic Safety • STCW Proficiency in Survival Craft • STCW Advanced Firefighting • ROC-MC Radio Licence • SEN Limited • Marine Advanced First Aid • TCMSS Marine Medical (must be obtained from a TCMSS approved doctor) Candidates will also be required to pass the following TCMSS examinations: • Chartwork and Pilotage Level 2 • Navigation Safety Level 1 • Meteorology Level 1 • Ship Construction and Stability Level 3 • General Ship Knowledge Level 3 Sea service required: • 24 months performing deck related duties If you are unsure of the certification you need or if you are unsure if you meet the sea service requirements, please contact your local Transport Canada Marine Safety and Security office.
