INDIGENOUS STUDIES GeorgianCollege.ca/ANPD GeorgianCollege.ca/GASK CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Graduates continue on to: • further studies at the college level • employment in supportive occupations requiring a general education • employment within organizations that prefer to administer their own training programs CAREER OPPORTUNITIES This program prepares students for a variety of language-related careers, including: • teacher of Anishnaabemowin as a second language • translator • language consultant • language specialist • storyteller Students may find employment in: • school boards • communities • government agencies • education facilities and more FUTURE STUDY OPTIONS Graduates of ANPD may be granted credit toward degree studies at the following institution via an articulation agreement: Algoma University (ON). ANISHNAABEMOWIN AND PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT ANPD Students acquire Anishnaabemowin skills to develop and implement sustainable language programs in Indigenous communities and organizations. Students practise their speaking skills by interacting in the classroom, language lab and in the community. The history of Anishnaabemowin and current issues affecting revitalization and preservation are also studied. Incorporating the Anishnaabe world view, students examine the role and importance of Anishnaabemowin in ceremony, cultural values and community. ONTARIO COLLEGE DIPLOMA 2 years (4 semesters) STARTS SEPTEMBER: Barrie (next intake 2018-19) Approximate annual fees: $4,518.86 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English (C or U) GENERAL ARTS AND SCIENCE – SHKI MIIKAN (NEW ROAD) GASK During this foundation year, students embark on a personal journey of discovery, developing a solid academic base, assessing education and career options, and developing self- management skills. Through Indigenous language and teachings, students explore their sense of cultural identity. Traditional teachings and smudging are integrated daily throughout each academic semester in social activities, individual program courses and traditional teacher/elder visits.
