HEALTH, WELLNESS AND SCIENCES HIGHLY COMPETITIVE PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Graduates will be able to apply for admission to the first year of a health and/or science program at college or pursue other degree opportunities. The curriculum has been designed to optimize transfer credits. Successful completion of the program does not guarantee entry into any health and/or science program. GeorgianCollege.ca/PHPA PRE-HEALTH SCIENCES PATHWAY TO ADVANCED DIPLOMAS AND DEGREES PHPA This program is designed to prepare individuals for successful admission and future success in diploma/degree health sciences programs. The program ensures that students will have the required courses to meet admission requirements and to acquire transferable postsecondary credits. The focus of the program will be the acquisition and/or improvement of the required knowledge and skills in communication, mathematics and the sciences required for admission, which include anatomy/physiology, biology, chemistry and physics. In addition, the program will meet or exceed the general education and essential employability skills as required by Ministry policy. This program will give students the health-related skills and knowledge beyond those normally acquired through an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD). Students will be prepared to effectively communicate with clients, families and members of the health care team, as well as provide safe and competent care for individual clients who are experiencing physical, cognitive, emotional and behavioural challenges. Personal support workers (PSWs) are unregulated health care providers who work under the supervision of a regulated health care professional or in a supported independent living environment under the direction of the client.
