Graduates will be able to work at academic and clinical institutions in the context of supporting research labs and education of postsecondary students while performing analysis of biological samples in both public and private settings. Experimental techniques and use of scientific equipment across a variety of disciplines, including biology, chemistry and physics, form the basis of the program. Upon graduation, students will be able to perform a wide array of experiments and assays to answer clinically related and scientific problems. Students learn the handling and restraint of animals as well as basic animal husbandry and clinical procedures. Emphasis is on companion animals. Students also learn a variety of basic diagnositic laboratory techniques, surgical support procedures and receptionist and client relation skills. Students learn and reinforce their skills and knowledge through a combination of lecture and hands-on laboratory practice in the on-site veterinary hospital.
