FIRST YEAR FEES: $3,909.06 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English (C or U) This program provides students with the knowledge and skills required to work with offenders and other high-risk client groups to ensure the protection of the public and the successful rehabilitation and reintegration of the offender. Students complete both academic and practical courses designed to foster a diverse set of skills required by today's employers. Areas of study include physical training, defensive tactics and use-of-force applications, institutional security procedures, crisis intervention, risk assessment and offender programming. In the final semester, students will also complete an integrated field placement with a professional agency that provides community-based or in-custody justice services. Career opportunities A wide variety of challenging careers within the field of criminal justice, with attention to intervention and re-integration, are available to graduates. Positions are in: • federal and provincial correctional institutions • community residential facilities • open and secure custody facilities for youth and justice agencies providing programs and services to offenders, individuals "at risk" and/or victims of crime Future study options: Graduates of CJSR may be granted credit toward degree studies at the following institutions via articulation and transfer agreements: Georgian College (ON), Davenport University (US), Lakehead University (ON), Laurentian University (ON), Nipissing University (ON), Royal Roads University (BC), University of Guelph (ON), University of New Brunswick Saint John (NB), and University of Ontario Institute of Technology (ON). FIRST YEAR FEES: $17,411.59 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English (C or U) • Grade 12 Mathematics (C or U) In this program, students gain knowledge and skills of basic fire science, fire suppression principles and practice, first responder emergency care, and fire prevention and public education. This program also provides students with specialty knowledge in confined space and water and ice rescue. The program meets the following National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) standards: • NFPA 1001, Standard for Firefighter Professional Qualifications: Firefighter I and Firefighter II • NFPA 472, Standard for Competence of Responders to Hazardous Materials/Weapons of Mass Destruction Incidents • NFPA 1006, Standard on Operations and Training for Technical Search and Rescue Incidents Career opportunities Successful graduates may find employment opportunities in: • professional firefighting • fire inspection • fire prevention and public education • private fire service • Ministry of Natural Resources • volunteer firefighting PRE-SERVICE FIREFIGHTER EDUCATION AND TRAINING FIRE
