2016/2017 PART-TIME STUDIES GUIDE parttimestudies@georgiancollege.ca 104 GENERAL INFORMATION YOUTH EMPLOYMENT FUND The Youth Employment Fund (YEF) provides youth ages 15 to 29 with an entry point to long-term employment through job placements that offer the chance to learn work skills while earning an income. Eligible youth are unemployed and not participating in full-time training. All of our employment services are provided at no cost and are funded by Employment Ontario. SJS supports summer employment for students by providing employers with an hourly hiring subsidy to hire youth in the summer. SJS is delivered by the Career and Employment Community Services in Barrie, Midland, Orangeville and Orillia. ACTIVITY This fee is applied to costs associated with enhancing the cultural, social and recreational life of students. It is administered by the Georgian College Students' Association (GCSA) and includes social, recreational, cultural, leisure, clubs, student communications and student government operations. ATHLETIC ACTIVITY Applied to costs associated with varsity sports, intramural and extramural sports, campus recreational sports and resources to support the gym and fitness centre. This fee is administered by the Student Athletic Association (SAA). CO-OPERATIVE EDUCATION This fee covers a portion of the costs of administration and services provided. This fee must be paid by students enrolled in a co-operative education program. Students in co-op programs will be charged an additional fee. For example, students registered in a 42 hour course will be charged an additional $35.70. EDUCATION TECHNOLOGY This fee offsets the cost of a number of college technology initiatives that directly benefit students. These include software and hardware upgrades in student computer labs, the establishment of high-tech classrooms and an Open Learning Centre for students. PART-TIME STUDIES ADMINISTRATION Supports costs associated with the delivery of part-time activity to offset costs for materials retained by students. STUDENT SUCCESS Offsets the cost of non-academic services available to all students including but not limited to, learning strategies, accessibility, adaptive technology and services, counselling, career services, peer mentoring and learning labs. UNIVERSAL FITNESS FEE Allows part time students to access the fitness centres at the Barrie, Orillia and Owen Sound campuses at a discounted rate. CREDENTIAL This fee offsets costs directly related to producing the credentials. It is paid by all full-time students at the beginning of their program and by part-time learners when they submit their Request to Graduate form. The fee is non-refundable and charged for each program a student wishes to graduate from. All graduating students will be charged $30.59. ALUMNI The alumni fee provides students with a lifetime membership in the college's Alumni Association. This fee is paid by all full time students at the start of their program and by part time learners when they submit their request to graduate form. This is a one time only fee. Students that have previously paid this fee will not be required to pay it again. This fee is non-refundable. Certificate, diploma and degree students will be charged $52.91. Recognition of successful completion and certificate of achievement programs do not pay the alumni fee. PAYMENT OF FEES Course fees must be paid in full at time of registration. Failure to do so will result in removal from the course. SENIORS' DISCOUNT Seniors (60 years of age and older) receive a 10 per cent discount on the tuition fee for most courses*, with a minimum fee of $12. The discount applies to the tuition fee only, which does not include materials, books, or incidental fees. If you qualify for the discount, please indicate this when registering and provide proof of age (driver's licence or birth certificate). *Some exceptions include: Real Estate, Associations and Motorcycle Training. Please check with registration staff for further exceptions. FINANCIAL AID For applications and information regarding eligibility for the Ontario Student Assistant Program (OSAP), contact the Financial Aid office at financialaid@georgiancollege.ca or inquire at the Office of the Registrar or your nearest registration office.
