As a member of the CN Canadian Women's Golf Tour for six years, Katie Ferguson knows a thing or two about the sport at which she excelled. Now she is sharing that knowledge with others as an award-winning golf coach at Georgian. The 2011 season was a testament to her leadership. Ferguson was named Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association Golf Coach of the Year and both the Grizzlies men's and women's golf teams won a silver medal at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association golf championships. Golf is currently Georgian's most successful varsity program. As a graduate of the Professional Golf Management program herself, Ferguson believes in the program and the success it can lead to. "I really enjoyed my time as a student at Georgian," said Ferguson. "It provided me with a great opportunity to get ahead in business and opened a lot of doors." While she is the Associate Professional at The Rock golf course in Minett, coaching is Ferguson's passion and she enjoys looking for the "it" factor in young golfers. "Deciding that your day has come and it's time to stop competitive golf is a really hard thing to do," said Ferguson. "But having the opportunity to coach others makes up for it and re- energizes the sport of it in me." cheer your Georgian Grizzlies on! Georgian has varsity teams in basketball, volleyball, rugby, badminton, cross country running, golf and indoor soccer. Go to www.georgiancollege.ca/athletics for team schedules. Admission for league games is $5 but alumni nights are free. nationally known While she is the Associate Professional at The Rock golf course in Minett, coaching is Ferguson's "But having the opportunity to coach others makes up for it and re- on tHe Greens By Shawn Gibson Katie Ferguson, Professional Golf Management '03 14 | GeorgianView 2012/13
