Did you know that Georgian's
European Style Pattern and Garment
Making program is the only fl at
pattern drafting program of its kind in
Canada?
In this unique program, students
learn an Italian method to create
custom-fi t patterns for personal or
professional use.
Each fall, the students participate
in The Creativ Festival – the largest
needlework tradeshow in North
America. One week prior to the festival
opening, students are issued a design
challenge for Project Catwalk. They
are allowed to meet in advance of
the competition to discuss concepts,
sketches and to make preliminary
plans for how they will create a winning
garment in just three days.
Machines are provided by
manufacturers, as well as irons, ironing
boards and cutting boards. Students
are allowed to bring in only a basic
sewing kit and whatever tools they
require to make the patterns, cut the
fabric and more. Garments that were
created between 2010 and 2012 were
recently on display at the Simcoe
County Museum.
Once Georgian students successfully
complete the drafting and sewing
aspects of the program, they may write
their Italian fashion arts exam and earn
their tailoring credential from Le Grand
Chic Italia School of Fashion.
