grad grapevine WhAt's neW With you? CArOL uLLiAC (née DuFF) nurSinG, 1976 Attending Georgian College was one of the best decisions of my life. After starting my career in the U.S. and then Toronto, I have spent the rest in rural Alberta, working in different practice, education and leadership positions. I continued my education and have a Masters of Nursing but credit Georgian with providing me the opportunity to understand the value of postsecondary education and lifelong learning. Currently, I am Dean of Health and Wellness at Portage College in Lac La Biche, AB. I would love to connect with any of my fellow classmates and they can reach me at carol.ulliac@gmail.com. PennY MAGuire (née OAkeS) nurSinG, 1983 Although I originally graduated from the Nursing program, I am now instructing all ages in hatha yoga. I've taken all my years of knowledge from the operating room and used it to support my new profession. throughout the year, alumni let us know about their professional and personal achievements. With almost three decades of culinary experience, Mary Harris has accumulated a wealth of knowledge and love for food. She shares it in her blog, Barrie's Foodie Girl at http://barriefoodiegirl.blogspot.ca, where she features local farmers, producers, restaurants and retailers. "I write for enjoyment, to help local businesses get exposure, and to inform the public about good places to dine and buy local produce," she says. Growing up in the Holland Marsh, Harris always knew where her food came from but she recently discovered that not everyone is as aware of how and where their food is grown. "If people were more aware of the benefits of shopping locally and cooking from scratch, I think they would get a lot of enjoyment out of it," says the blogger. What has been her favourite local food discovery to date? "Tiffins Curry in a Hurry phaal curry dish, known as the world's hottest curry. Apparently Tiffins is the only Indian restaurant in Canada to feature it on its regular menu." Mary Harris shares her love for local food in her blog, Barrie's Foodie Girl.
