The program This program will prepare you for employment in most settings working with children and youth who are experiencing social, emotional and behavioural challenges. The program implements a variety of prevention, intervention and treatment strategies that are based on foundational understanding of human behaviour and development, family systems, cultural diversity and exceptionalities. The philosophy of the program is enhancing resilience and strength in children and youth. Its goal is to ensure that all graduates are strong, self-aware, knowledgeable, ethical and skilled professionals. A unique component of the program is the interactive lab where you'll have the opportunity to enhance and practise counselling, assessment, referral and intervention skills in a safe, supportive environment before commencing field placements. Eligibility may be met by applicants who have taken equivalent courses, upgrading, completed their GED and equivalency testing. Graduation requirements Students are required to complete 2 communications courses • 27 mandatory courses • 5 general education courses to be chosen from the college list • 4 field placements Future study options Graduates of this program may be granted credit toward degree studies at other institutions including Algoma University, Athabasca University, Bishop's University, Carleton University, Davenport University (U.S.A.), Griffith University (Australia), Lakehead University, Laurier Brantford, Ryerson University, University of Guelph and University of Ontario Institute of Technology.
