23 UNITED NATIONS SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT GOALS | GeorgianCollege.ca In 2021, Georgian College signed the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) Accord; an urgent call for action with 17 goals to end poverty, improve health and education, tackle climate change, and much more. Since then, the college has taken on several sustainability projects, one being retrofitting a 1972 Volkswagen Westfalia as an electric vehicle. Students and faculty from engineering and technologies, interior design and other programs came together to redesign the vehicle's interior and power it with electrical upgrades. The new VW electric camper was unveiled at the 2024 Georgian College Auto Show, featuring a pop-up camper and decked out with vintage blue and green plaid. Artemis Denstedt, a Mechanical Engineering Technology student at Georgian, says one of her favourite things is to see her designs come to life, especially one that will positively impact the environment. 17 goals for social change. We spent a weekend in the lab to get the vehicle running, and when we first heard that motor whir, we erupted into applause. We were just so ecstatic and relieved that it worked.
