4 GEORGIANVIEW 2024 PRINT EDITION GREETINGS Aaniin, She:Kon, Nakurmiik, Tanshi, which means hello in Ojibwe, Mohawk, Inuktitut and Michif (the traditional language of the Métis). This is one of my favourite times of the academic year as thousands of students joined our growing alumni community – now more than 100,000 and strong! I'm deeply proud of all our Georgian grads who are making an impact both locally and across the globe as leaders, innovators, changemakers and compassionate citizens. It's been another incredible year at the college, and for alumni, and you'll see that reflected in this issue of GeorgianView. Many of our stories outline how Georgian is a recognized leader in using technology to fuel innovation and learning. For example, you can read how the Brand Family 360° Interdisciplinary Simulation Space is replicating environments students will be exposed to during their careers with immersive, inter-professional scenarios that include everything from touch to sounds and smells. We also share how Georgian is navigating the new world of artificial intelligence (AI). There are several features about the trailblazing achievements and success of our talented alumni. You'll meet two courageous grads who navigated career changes and are thriving in professions they're passionate about. Melanie Robinson (class of 2000 and 2012) went from working in security to excelling in culinary management – winning the Food Network's Chopped Canada! An injury caused Kari Carter (class of 2021) to retire early from the military. She came to Georgian to take photography and represented Team Canada earlier this spring in the 2024 World Photographic Cup. I love these stories and how they authentically capture what a Georgian education is truly all about: transforming lives and unrivaled experiences. These opportunities for our students and grads to start or change careers – to reinvent themselves, pursue a new interest or dream – are only made possible thanks to the generous support of donors, community and industry partners, and government. This past year, we were fortunate to receive significant gifts and investments to enhance the Georgian experience and support our efforts to meet employer demand in critical areas. For example, the Schulich Foundation, through its Schulich Builders program designed to combat the shortage of skilled trades professionals and amplify the importance of the sector, established 10 game-changing scholarships (five at $20,000 and five at $40,000) that will help cover tuition, tools and living expenses. I hope you enjoy discovering what's in this latest issue of our magazine, and I encourage you to pass it along to family, colleagues and friends. You can stay informed and inspired any time by reading the latest news at GeorgianCollege.ca. Please also stay connected and let us know what you've been up to. We'd love to hear from you. Thank you for your ongoing support of the college and our students. It means a great deal to all of us to have you as a champion and friend. Chi-Miigwech.
