12 GEORGIANVIEW FALL 2023 alumni milestone is more than a number Georgian's Georgian honoured to receive Eagle Feather In recognition of Georgian's commitment to Truth and Reconciliation, an Eagle Feather is now part of all convocation ceremonies to honour the strength, determination and commitment of graduates. Many Indigenous cultures believe the Eagle Feather is sacred because of its ability to fly closest to the Creator. It symbolizes respect, honour, strength, courage and wisdom. The morning convocation ceremony on June 19, 2023 included the first processional with the Eagle Feather. To be gifted an Eagle Feather is the greatest honour and requires a commitment to respect and care for all of Creation. Alumnus Curtis Copegog (class of 2012 and 2014), member of the Alumni Association Executive Committee, presented the Eagle Feather to Georgian at a special ceremony in May 2023. Solomon King, alumnus of the Cabinetmaking Techniques program (class of 2018), designed and created a display case for the feather. Georgian has officially reached 100,000 graduates, marking the significant milestone in its 56-year history during several convocation ceremonies on Oct. 23 and 24, as well as during a Georgian@ILAC convocation in November. "Reaching 100,000 alumni is a momentous occasion for Georgian, one demonstrating an ongoing demand for the innovative and highly relevant educational experience we offer our students," said Kevin Weaver, President and CEO, Georgian College. "Since 1967 and that first cohort of 101 students, thousands of alumni have taken to the world stage, transforming workplaces and communities as innovators and changemakers. As the alumni community grows with each passing year and every future convocation ceremony, so will Georgian's undeniable impact." This fall, more than 3,300 students graduated from Georgian's seven campuses, as well as Georgian@ILAC, from more than 130 programs. As Georgian celebrates the collective contributions of its growing alumni community, the college is marking this occasion by sharing inspiring alumni stories and unique journeys to success. Many of these stories are included in this issue of GeorgianView as well as featured on the official Georgian alumni social media channels. With a diverse community of students hailing from 86 different countries and pursuing diverse career paths, 100,000 is just one of many numbers that can be used to showcase the remarkable journeys of Georgian alumni. Behind each number is a story of achievement, perseverance and inspiration. In this section, we've assigned a number to the alumni based on their story.
