Aaniin, She:Kon, Tanshi, hello As Georgian's proud President and CEO, I'm very pleased to launch our new Indigenization strategy. The name, Maajiishkaadaa – Let's Move Forward Together, represents the renewed energy we, the whole college community, bring to this important work. The priorities identified within the strategy are grounded in insightful feedback from Indigenous community partners, along with Georgian employees and students, creating a guiding document to carry us over the next two years. Maajiishkaadaa is truly a collaborative effort and I want to thank everyone for their contributions. Georgian is committed to the next phase in our journey, which is the work of reconcili-action. We recognize these commitments are both individual and collective responsibilities that we share. This strategy will complement other guiding documents, including Colleges and Institutes Canada's Indigenous Education Protocol, the Truth and Reconciliation Commission's Calls to Action and our strategic plan, which taken together will guide our work into the future. Over the next two years, we'll continue to amplify Indigenous voices and perspectives through curriculum enhancements, employee training, knowledge sharing, storytelling, transformation of our physical and virtual spaces, and creating more opportunities to bring the community onto our campuses. We'll also provide opportunities for students and employees to actively participate in the process of Indigenization, decolonization and reconciliation. Together, in partnership with the Anishinaabe Education and Training Circle, we'll all continue to learn and unlearn, and strengthen the partnership we have with First Nation, Métis and urban Indigenous communities. Like any strategy or plan, our success will be defined by our people. Let's hold ourselves and each other accountable to this important work to disrupt current colonial processes and structures; resist the traditional erasure of Indigenous histories, knowledge and language; and celebrate the outstanding achievements of Indigenous communities and students that we serve. Miigwech, Nia:wen, Maarsii, thank you. Kevin Weaver President and CEO INDIGENIZATION STRATEGY | LET'S MOVE FORWARD TOGETHER 4 GeorgianCollege.ca
