INDIGENOUS STRATEGY PLAN | A MESSAGE FROM GEORGIAN'S PRESIDENT LAND ACKNOWLEDGEMENT Georgian College acknowledges that all campuses are situated on the traditional land of the Anishnaabeg people. The Anishnaabeg include the Odawa, Ojibwe, and Pottawatomi nations, collectively known as the Three Fires Confederacy. Georgian College is dedicated to honouring Indigenous history and culture and committed to moving forward in the spirit of reconciliation and respect with all First Nation, Métis and Inuit people. As a vice-chair of Georgian's Board of Governors and chair of the Anishinaabe Education and Training Circle, I would like to thank the students, community members, staff, faculty and administrators who participated in the community engagement process to shape the Maajiishkaadaa (Let's move forward together) Indigenization Strategy. This strategy will provide direction on ways in which all departments and faculties of Georgian College can work collaboratively on new exciting initiatives that will benefit not only our students but also the communities in which they live and work. The board remains committed to deepening and expanding Indigenous community partnerships; Maajiishkaadaa identifies a path forward to enhance these collaborative relationships between college and community. The Pow Wow arbour, as a representation of the strategy, depicts the broader impact that Maajiishkaadaa will have on all of society. Founded in relationships and working toward Indigenous self-determination, the strategy will support students carrying good medicine into the world, with the pillars representing the strategies that will lead to student success. I am pleased that the work done to date is recognized and reflected in this strategy. It will be a guiding document for all of us in the Georgian community as we journey together toward a period of reconcili-action and I am excited to be a part of this journey. Miigwech, thank you. Mary-Anne Willsey Vice-chair of Georgian's Board of Governors and chair of the Anishinaabe Education and Training Circle General Manager, Business Operations, Chippewas of Rama First Nation GeorgianCollege.ca 3
