26 GEORGIANVIEW FALL 2021 DIGITAL EDITION
HENRy BERNICK ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTRE
Typically, this would be through in-person meetings at
the Barrie Campus, but when the pandemic hit in March
2020, HBEC had to change its game plan and move all
programs online to fit the 'new normal.'
"We started building the Bernick Online (YouTube)
channel in the summer of 2020, shortly after the early
part of the pandemic," notes Dr. Jamie Doran, Executive
Director, Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship. "We
started publishing our first videos in August 2020 and
we've had 8,000 views since then."
Broadcasting digital assets like videos and podcasts allow
the HBEC team to reach more people and communicate
with them frequently. Bernick Online makes it possible to
share the wisdom and experiences of clients, students,
and their diverse group of mentors. Viewers are mainly
from Ontario but the channel is gaining more viewers
from further afield each month.
"We know that as our channel grows our region will
attract more attention and this will help us attract the
kinds of talent and businesses that can help us grow our
local economy," says Doran.
In addition to the YouTube channel HBEC has also
piloted tools like Pheedloop, REMO, and the ILRN
Virtual Campus, which are platforms for hosting online
conferences, events, and meetings. Students have been
reached through online classroom visits, workshops,
events, and unique virtual programs.
Bernick Online also inspires action by helping drive
the public to the programs so they can see what other
entrepreneurs are doing and learn from online resources.
"Going forward, we intend to keep building Bernick
Online even when face-to-face activities resume," says
Doran. "The channel will be an up-to-date repository
of learning assets, stories, and highlights from our
entrepreneurial ecosystem and most importantly, it's a
way to remain connected to the world."

wife Esther, donated $1.5 million to launch the centre. Their children
continue to carry on their legacy at Georgian.
