Multi-faceted partnerships with Georgian College are
designed to build and grow your business. As the
first college in Canada to be designated an Ashoka
Changemaker college for its leadership role in social
innovation and changemaking in higher education,
Georgian is leading the way in developing partnerships
that make a difference in our communities.
Georgian is proud to have multi-faceted partnerships
with Toronto Hydro, Honda of Canada Mfg., Magna
International and more.
Some of the Georgian teams that support partnerships
include:
Alectra Energy Solutions is installing a microgrid at the
Barrie Campus near the entrance to the Athletics and
Fitness Centre. The energy storage solution will support
Ontario's climate change, aligning with Georgian
College's commitment in its 2016-2021 strategic plan
to raise awareness of environmental issues and promote
energy efficiency in the college's operations.
The microgrid is a state-of-the-art energy storage system,
which is expected to lower the college's power costs by
using energy storage to reduce electricity consumption
when demand is peaking. This will decrease Georgian's
Global Adjustment Charge, which is a fee billed to all
hydro customers in the province under Ontario's 2009
Green Energy Act. These charges are typically 60 per cent
of the total annual electricity bill.
"Microgrid technology is no longer a theoretical future
innovation – in many cases, it is the most cost-effective
solution today," says Brian Bentz, President & CEO,

Alectra Inc. "We're proud to partner with Georgian
College on this project, and thrilled to see them
embracing innovation and sustainability."
The microgrid comes on the heels of a larger $750,000
investment that Alectra made to Georgian in 2018, which
established the Alectra Centre for Research, Innovation
and Commercialization inside the Peter B. Moore
Advanced Technology Centre at the college's Barrie
campus.
