9 GEORGIANVIEW FALL 2020 DIGITAL SUPPLEMENT
On Sept. 14, 2020, the college began the fall
semester and welcomed nearly 9,000 students. We're
delivering courses remotely wherever possible and
only delivering in-person where a hands-on learning
component is required. Seventy per cent of students
are studying remotely and 30 per cent on-campus. This
means orientation looked different this year from years
past.
The First Year Experience team worked hard to
ensure our students' virtual orientation experience was
informative, engaging, and fun. They set up a landing
page on the student portal for students to access all the
resources they need to participate in and prepare for the
semester ahead. This included links to academic supports,
mental health and well-being resources, and a detailed
schedule of online events.
Keynote speaker Peter Katz started the morning off
on a high note, leaving students inspired and ready to
conquer the year. From there, students attended virtual
academic breakout sessions where they met faculty
from their programs and asked questions about the
coming semester. They then had the opportunity to
attend a welcome session from the respective campuses,

mindfulness practice.
More than 500 first-year students registered to attend
Georgian's free swag giveaway on Sept. 29 and 30 in one
of the parking lots at the Barrie Campus. Michelle Leblanc
and her daughter Sarah Resendes, pictured above,
were two of these attendees. Both women are first-year
students at the Barrie Campus. Michelle is enrolled in the
Business program and Sarah in the Esthetician program.
