10 GEORGIANVIEW FALL 2020 DIGITAL SUPPLEMENT
Welcoming the class of 2020
The journey to graduation for the class of 2020 was
indeed different this year, but certainly no less special.
This year, 5,124 students completed their Georgian
program, and in any other year these graduates would
have crossed the stage at Georgian's annual convocation
ceremony.
COVID-19 changed the journey to graduation for the
class of 2020. Given public health restrictions for hosting
events with large groups of people during the pandemic,
Georgian's convocation ceremonies went virtual.
Georgian hosted a virtual celebration this past June,
and virtual convocation ceremonies this past October. In
total, more than 3,800 graduates and their loved ones
attended these events, logging-on from 45 countries
around the world. Over the summer and following the
October virtual ceremonies, graduates received a special
mailing from Georgian, complete with their official
Georgian credential and their exclusive Georgian College
Alumni Association membership card.
"The fact that Georgian was able to pivot our
convocation strategy, and create these virtual
environments where graduating students could mark their
achievements with friends and family on such a global
scale is a testament to the dedication and hard work
of so many people" says Kevin Weaver, Vice President
Academic. "These students overcame so many challenges
to complete their credentials, and earned this opportunity
to be celebrated by our college, as well as their friends,
loved ones and fellow students".
