MENTORSHIP HAS ITS
OWN REWARDS AND
AWARDS
Since graduating from Georgian in 2013, Mike Maurice's work as a
meteorological technologist studying climate and weather for Environment
and Climate Change Canada has taken him to the extreme edges of the
country, from remote Sable Island in the Atlantic, to the Eureka Research
Base on Ellesmere Island in the Arctic.
While attending a Georgian campus visit two years ago, Mike
met Sarah Long, an Environmental Technology student, and has been
providing mentor support to her ever since. His main goal is to provide her
with a current and realistic perspective on the job market as it relates to
her educational pathway, but he also supports her by providing advice on
job search strategies and networking opportunities.
In 2018, Sarah nominated Mike and his research for the Georgian
College Board of Governors Distinguished Alumni Award and Mike was
presented the award on May 4, 2018.
