OWEN SOUND FITNESS CENTRE GETS A MAKEOvER S tudents in Owen Sound are enjoying their new fitness centre, featuring more equipment and extended operating hours. In late 2016, the fitness centre re-opened after undergoing extensive renovations funded by the Georgian College Students' Association (GCSA). It was one of many projects supported by the student leadership's $7.2 million donation to enhance student services at all campuses. "Our Georgian College Students' Association, past and present, is thrilled to have been able to provide this amazing new fitness centre for the students of this campus," says GCSA Owen Sound President Marvin Nyende. "The beautiful multi-use centre is a testament to the students' commitment to healthy living; serving students, staff and community members alike." The renovation included doubling the size of the space to 4,247 square feet, purchasing more strength and cardio equipment, and installing an integrated audio/visual system that features 17 televisions, free WiFi and LED lighting. A new access control system was also installed to provide advanced security features for safety to members. Alumni and community members can review membership rates at georgiangrizzlies.ca. Renovations to student spaces are also underway at the Barrie and Orillia campuses and will be complete by year-end.
