In 2017, Georgian College will celebrate its golden anniversary. The college has changed a lot in the past 50 years and Georgian is an exciting place to be for both domestic and international students. Just this year alone, Georgian celebrated the grand opening of new student spaces at the Barrie Campus in the lobby of the Automotive Business School of Canada, the new FIFA-certified sports field, and the Segal International Centre, which serves the college's 1,100 international students. Georgian also opened the new state-of-the-art Algoma Central Corporation Marine Emergency Duties Centre at the Owen Sound Campus. This new facility, along with the Centre for Marine Training and Research, has made Georgian the focal point of marine training in Central Canada. Georgian isn't just improving spaces, it's also offering more industry-relevant and cutting-edge programs – 10 new programs, including two combined degree-diplomas with Lakehead University, have been added to the college's offerings. With all this positive change and growth, I am excited to see what Georgian will look like in the next 50 years, and how it will impact both students and alumni. I invite you to visit GeorgianCollege.ca/celebrate50 to see how you can become involved in celebrating the college's golden anniversary. At Georgian College, we accelerate success. That promise is at the centre of our new five- year strategic plan and provides a touchstone to focus our energies during a time when the needs of our students and communities continue to rapidly evolve and expand. Our vision is to accelerate success through exceptional teaching and learning, innovation and partnerships. Much of our plan builds on our success – as a college system trailblazer in entrepreneurship and social innovation, as Ontario's top co-op college, and as a long-time postsecondary leader in environmental sustainability. Our plan focuses on quality, market-driven programs – from apprenticeships and skills development to the advanced education of degrees – all offering relevant curriculum for in- demand jobs. Strong community and industry partnerships are woven throughout and are an integral part of our commitment to meaningful collaboration. Bold new measures include a guarantee to employers of our graduates' job readiness; a comprehensive degree strategy including Georgian degrees, combined degree-diplomas and partner degrees; a degree pathway for every Georgian diploma program; and enriched learning through meaningful research and scholarship. We recognize our students are changing – and Georgian will continue to change as well. To that end, we will internationalize our campuses to enhance cultural awareness, support our growing number of international students, and create greater study abroad opportunities. We will also focus on the Indigenization of curriculum and our college community. And we will continue to enhance our program offerings and delivery methods in response to shifting labour market demands and demographics. This edition of GeorgianView magazine is full of inspiring stories on how we are living our plan and updates on how we continue to transform the student experience.
