Pharmacy Technician students work with several community groups to deliver the R.A.C.E. Against Drugs program, which educates Grade 5 students about the dangers of drugs and alcohol. HEALTH, WELLNESS AND SCIENCES HIGHLY COMPETITIVE PLACEMENT REQUIREMENTS CAREER OPPORTUNITIES Graduates may go on to become Registered Pharmacy Technicians with the Ontario College of Pharmacists. Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists is a legal requirement to practise and is subject to the regulations and restrictions established by this governing body. Graduates will be qualified to work in a variety of settings including: • community pharmacies • home health care companies • hospital pharmacies • pharmaceutical wholesalers • pharmacy software vendors • third-party insurance companies • pharmaceutical companies and manufacturers FUTURE STUDY OPTIONS Graduates of PHRM may be granted credit toward degree studies at the following institutions via articulation and transfer agreements: Brock University (ON), Davenport University (US), Thompson Rivers University (BC), University of New Brunswick Saint John (NB) and University of Ontario Institute of Technology (ON). Courses focus on professionalism, relevant legislations, pathophysiology and pharmacology, customer care, software systems and principles of quality assurance. Students will utilize current technologies for an understanding of inventory control and customer service to accurately prepare and dispense medication. Guiding principles of safe medication practice, including aseptic technique, accurate calculations and labelling, and use of current, credible sources of information are emphasized in lectures, simulated labs and community and institutional placements. This program is fully accredited by the Canadian Council for Accreditation of Pharmacy Programs (CCAPP) for a five-year term. Graduates can preregister with the Ontario College of Pharmacists (OCP) and start the process of becoming licensed to practise as regulated pharmacy technicians in Ontario. Graduates are also eligible to write the Pharmacy Examining Board of Canada (PEBC) qualifying exam and the OCP jurisprudence exam. Visit pebc.ca and www.ocpinfo.com for timelines and fees.
