FIELD OF DREAMS
B
y next summer, Georgian
varsity and intramural
athletes will have a new
field to play on at the Barrie
Campus.
The college developed green
space in 2009 to accommodate
other significant projects
including the Sadlon Centre for
Health, Wellness and Sciences.
The Georgian College
Students' Association is funding
the development of the field
(see story on page 25), which will
replace the northeast baseball
diamond. It will have rugby,
soccer and football markings.
Academic programs with
fitness training requirements will
also use the field, and it will be
accessible to community groups
and sports teams.
G
eorgian now has 1,100
international students from
60 countries, nearly three
times as many as in 2005. Such rapid
growth has created the need for a
larger, more student service-focused
international centre.
guard.me International Insurance,
a long-time Georgian supporter,
announced it will donate $400,000
to renovate and expand the centre
to 5,000 square feet. It will house
advising and counselling services,
recruitment, housing, insurance,
study visa/work permit support and
the English for Academic Purposes
program. It will also have a student
lounge space. Construction will
begin this spring.
