Mike Maurice is an integral part of the Canadian Network for the Detection
of Atmospheric Change (CANDAC) team in Eureka, Nunavut. As an Arctic
Research Technologist, he is in charge of monitoring atmospheric science
instrumentation that provides data related to climate processes, transport of
pollutants into the Arctic and the recovery of the ozone layer.
He completes specialized tasks for world-renowned researchers and
troubleshoots various discrepancies that arise from harsh polar conditions. His
work is vital to scientists, researchers and policy makers who work to protect
the health of our planet.
He says his exposure to the global scientific community has been one
of the highlights of his career. He enjoys working with the researchers and
scientists, citing one of the inventors of the UV Index.
"I truly believe in what I am working for, and helping to create a better
world for Canadians and everyone else," he says.
