FIRST YEAR FEES: $4,041.06 ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS OSSD or equivalent with • Grade 12 English (C or U) This program provides students with both the technical and visual communication skills required for a variety of careers related to photography and imaging. Its three main focus areas are: Digital capture, imaging technologies, and entrepreneurial skills. Students use industry- standard hardware and software to capture and manipulate images in a way that demonstrates their skill and creativity. Students learn how to integrate digital imaging techniques with the fundamentals of photography to create images that communicate effectively and meet the client needs. Furthermore, students develop business and career development skills that are relevant to the digital photography and imaging industries. Career opportunities • photographers • assistants • retouchers in studios, labs, and media production Fields include: • photojournalism • weddings • portraits • public relations • commercial photography • digital imaging Industry areas include: • advertising • graphic design • fine art • government • hospitals • police • libraries • museums • galleries • wholesale and retail sales Future study options: Graduates of DPAI may be granted credit toward degree studies at the following institutions via articulation and transfer agreements: Davenport University (US), Griffith University (Australia), and University of New Brunswick Saint John (NB). It also provides the opportunity for students to assess which area in the visual arts is most appropriate to their individual abilities. Effective research, problem-solving, and conceptualization skills are developed to nurture talents and prepare students for future studies in art and design. The range of courses provides an opportunity to learn new skills and refine existing skills. The portfolio developed in this program will be valuable when applying to specialized art or design programs.
